My name is John Choate and I am the president of Choate Custom Homes.  I'm the bored looking teen sitting on the left side of the tree branch.  I began my building trades education as a very young man.

My father, Ray, and my mother, Nancy, worked very hard their entire lives to provide for me and my six brothers and sisters. Since my parents could not afford to pay anyone to fix the things around the house that broke (with 7 kids, a lot got broken), my dad was the live-in repairman. With me being the oldest of their seven children, I became his right hand man. I learned how everything in a house works and how to fix everything that needed repairing and/or replacing.

At 14, I got a job as a mason's laborer mixing mortar and transporting bricks and began laying brick and block. At 16, I went to work for a flatwork company and learned how to set grades for sidewalks and driveways and actually set-up and poured all of the sidewalks around the old Tiger Stadium in Detroit. At 18, I began working for a local building company doing rough and finish clean-up with my girlfriend, Carol, (now my wife of 22 years) and continued cleaning builders' houses through my graduation from The University of Michigan. 

I built my first home in 1985, obtained my   Original Michigan Builders License in 1987 and started J&C Custom Homes.  In 2005 we officially changed our name to Choate Custom Homes, LLC. and in 2007 our license was changed to the corporation name (Choate Construction and Development)  Current Michigan Builders License.  Back in 2002, we also started researching areas of the country where we wanted to expand our business.  After many arduous trips searching for an ideal area, we decided upon the beautiful state of North Carolina.  Our Unlimited Residential Builders License in the state of North Carolina  is License # 64541.  Verify any NC General Contractors License. 

I have a simple business motto -- Our Customers Come First!  Every employee, every supplier and every tradesperson that works with Choate is required to adopt our mode of operation and to treat all of our homeowners with the highest level of professionalism, honesty and trustworthyness.
